The commitment of Staff, Volunteers, and Trustees working in the Voluntary Sector in Sunderland is second to none.

Our members, over 365 groups at last count, work tirelessly to enhance the lives of the people they support and the VCAS 2020 'Open Arms' Awards have been developed to recognise and celebrate their significant and continued contribution.

The awards are:

  • Community Group Award

  • Partnership Award

  • Health and Wellbeing Award

  • Community Places & Spaces Award

  • Influence and Collaboration Award

  • Community Culture and Arts Award

  • Sports Award

  • Trustee of the Year Award

  • Young Volunteer of the Year Award

  • Volunteer of the Year Award

  • VCAS “Open Arms” Award

In addition, the panel will consider and present an award for “Life Long Contribution” to someone who has given their heart and soul to supporting the VCS Community in the City.

The Open Arms Awards will be different from any other award in the City, or indeed the sector and here’s why – It’s you who will vote and decide who wins in each category.

The Open Arms Awards will ensure that the people and organisations that do so much for others the sector and the community are recognised by the very same people who see the impact of their selfless work.

So, thinking caps on folks – who will you be nominating and why?
